Sony PlayStation 5: Your New Generation Play Zone Coming Soon…

Sony PlayStation 4 was launched in 2013 and three years after its release, in 2016, it was updated to PS4 pro and PS4 slim. That was the past. Now, let’s talk about something futuristic. The Wall Street journal reports analyst Damian Thong’s prediction which says “Sony will release its next-generation Play-Station 5 by the second half of 2018". He is the same analyst who correctly predicted for PS4 pro and PS4 slim. So, this prediction has some weight.

Sony first launched its first console in December 1994. PlayStation2 arrived roughly after six years. The gap between PlayStation 2 and Play-Station 3 was around six years. The PS4 came seven years after the release of PS3. Now, if we are considering these releases then the fifth generation should come not before 2020. The PS4 is less than five years old and it’s not even been a year that PS4 is made debut in the market. So, why will Sony release its new generation console (PlayStation5)? And what is a base of this prediction?

The success of Sony PlayStation 4

PlayStation 4 is the most successful console of Sony. Sony shipped 20 million units of PlayStation 4 during the financial year which ends at the 31st march. With this, the overall figure reaches to 60 million. The PS4’s growth is faster than PlayStation 2. This second generation console was sold about 71 million in its lifetime which is expected to overcome by current four generation console.

Sony thinks that sales of the fourth generation console have reached its peak. Sony is expecting to ship only 18 million consoles in the next financial year. The fourth generation consoles will only expect to go down at the end of its life cycle.

The other reason for this prediction is that People need a console with more specification now than wait for the new platform for six to seven years. We all know how this tech market increases day by day after introducing of android Smartphone. After all, this is just a prediction so we would like to take some liberty here because we think that there is ‘an if’ here. If Sony reduces the price like it did for PlayStation 2 then there may be an increase in sell at end of life cycle of the console. It is noted that Sony reduced the price of PS2 to $129 and the sells just jumped!

Project Scorpio:

Microsoft is expected to launch its next-generation Xbox console this year. It is named as ‘Project Scorpio’. The Specification of this console is already out and it seems more powerful than PS4 pro. So, surely this will affect the current sale and current market demand of PS4. We think that Sony may reduce the Price of the PS4 pro to cut some of the sales of Project Scorpio.

The specification of PlayStation 5

There aren’t any other specifications to share other than a prediction of Sony PlayStation 5 itself. The PS4 is a huge success so it’s likely to assume that this Japanese company will stick to the same Architecture. The PS4 is powered by AMD-Built x86 multi-core processor and AMD GPU. This is same as X-Box. The PlayStation will have a more powerful process, more memory, faster GPU and 

more Storage if Sony wants to maintain compatibility with the success of PS4.

Sony may surprise us with an entirely new platform with PS5 but it’s unlikely to assume because it only costs much more for development and with the new platform, the risk may come. Stick with the older one and make it more powerful, that’s a quite strategy with many advantages.

There aren’t much information about this console of Sony except this prediction but it’s likely to assume that it may have the same architecture as PS4 (because of the huge success of PS4) but with more powerful processor, more storage, faster memory, and GPU.
